Nightstand Books

Here's what I've been reading lately just before I fall asleep:

Timothy Keller's The Freedom of Self-Forgetfulness (I haven't actually started this one yet, but I'm    convicted every time I read the title, so I'm counting it)

Anne Morrow Lindbergh's Gift From the Sea

Lina AbuJamra's Thrive  Delightfully written!

D. E. Stevenson's Mrs. Tim Christie, which I love!  She is an author from mid-century who
has put the diary she wrote during the war years into a somewhat fictional account.
    Lovely reading . . .

I'm not even going to begin to list the books piled under and inside of my nightstand.  Fortunately I just found a nice large nightstand at the thrift store, so there's much more room for books I'm hoping to read someday.

What's on, under, inside your nightstand?

3 comments:

  1. Mistaken Identity by the Van Ryn and Cerak families

I've also been reading Thrive; excellent!

The Little Way of Ruthie Leming, by Rod Dreher, which I haven't started yet but will soon

City of Tranquil Light by Bo Caldwell, a beautiful novel inspired by the lives of the author's grandparents, who were missionaries in China. This was a special book for me, as my grandparents were also missionaries in China close to the time of the book's setting.

The Twelfth Imam, by Joel Rosenberg--riveting, even though it is not the type of book I normally read

A Book Like No Other, by Carol Ruvolo (This is your book, Jean; I will get it back to you!)

(I don't see any way to underline or italicize when commenting on this blog...)

  2. Miracle for Jen (Barrick)

    Night Watchman (Mynheir)

When the Morning Glory Blooms (Ruchti)

A Little Book for New Theologians (Kapic)

  3. "His Thoughts Said...His Father Said..." by Amy Carmichael. Very profound and encouraging! Easy to read in little chunks before going to sleep each night, since Carmichael breaks up each "thought" into little paragraph sections.

"Angel on a Leash" by David Frei--an inspiring, touching book about the impact of therapy dogs and the bond between dogs and people.

"Running with the Whole Body" by Jack Heggie. Supposed to revitalize your running and make a great runner out of anyone. :)

"Wives and Daughters" by Elizabeth Gaskell. A little slow to get into, but, true to Gaskell's style, it's getting good and harder to put down now.

Another plug for Lina--I finished "Thrive" a while ago and loved it! Powerful stuff for any Christian, not just singles!
