Oh, sweet little guy, beginning his day with prayer. I know he just happens to be sitting next to a frisbee full of food, but it's clear that he is praying. Don't you think?
Speaking of beginning a day with prayer, here's a great one that I found in Psalm 119. This Psalm, full of love for the Scriptures, is also full of prayers. Verses 33-40 is one of them:
Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways. Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared. Turn away the reproach that I dread, for your rules are good. Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!
Is this not the daily desire of your heart, to be taught by God, led by Him, even to have our hearts "inclined" by Him, because we are so prone to wander. Apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). He is the only One who can give us true life and enable us to obey His commands. He only can turn away the reproach we deserve, because it is He who has taken it for us. It is He who keeps us.
Make a commitment to pray regularly from the Word. Begin even with this one. What a way to start your day, as much as you'd like to begin with a frisbee full of nuts.
Amen & amen!!
